Baltimore County residents might not be able to buy bread or milk at the Randallstown Shopping Plaza anymore, but they will be able to find a job or train for their next career.

Part of the Liberty Road shopping center, which lost its Giant Food anchor store along with several other businesses, will be demolished Wednesday.

The former 39,000-square-foot Giant space is slated to be torn down to make way for a new county municipal complex.

The county has agreed to lease the space at Liberty and Offutt roads for the next 10 years, at a cost of about $5.9 million.

It plans to use the property as a satellite campus for the Community College of Baltimore. The county will also take part of the space for its social services department, its office of sustainability, and its work force development center. The facilities are slated to be opened next year.

Representatives from retail real estate brokerage Trout Daniel & Associates will also be on hand for the demolition ceremony. The brokerage had tried to market the spot to other shops but ended up brokering the lease between the plaza’s owner and Baltimore County.
