CityBizList: Giant Construction to Start at the Liberty Center |
|
On Wednesday, Baltimore County Executive Jim Smith will mark the official start to construction at the new Liberty Center, located in the old Giant Food store in the Randallstown Shopping Plaza on Offutt Road. The 39,000 square foot space will be leased by County Government for the next ten years.
The former retail space will be transformed into a new campus of The Community College of Baltimore County, a Workforce Development Center, an office for the Baltimore County Department of Social Services, and a Green Resource Center.
The retail space became available nearly three years ago after Giant Food Stores closed. Trout Daniel, who handles leasing and management at the center, worked with several major grocery chains to find a good fit for the space, but ultimately found the space was not of a proper size or configuration to meet their needs.
Trout Daniel then embarked on a 2.5 year process of working with Baltimore County Government and the Community College of Baltimore County to form the partnership that will bring these community resources to residents of Randallstown and western Baltimore County. The project also meets LEED Certification requirements.
The owner of the center, Randallstown Plaza Associates, will be investing approximately $2.3 million to build out the space to meet the needs of The Liberty Center.
Existing tenants at Randallstown Shopping Plaza, including Bank of America, Subway and Family Dollar should benefit from the anticipated increase in foot traffic at the center.
Wednesday's ceremony will take place at 11:30 a.m. at the site, 3637 Offutt Road in Randallstown. Among those who are expected to attend include the Office of Workforce Development Director Barry Williams, CCBC President Dr. Sandra Kurtinitis, Social Services Director Tim Griffith and Jerry Trout, III, Principal of Trout Daniel & Associates.
